Funds to support two reading-discussion programs as part of a larger series focusing on the African American experience as it is reflected in contemporary African American literature.

The James A. Fields House, Inc.
Funds to support the cost of printing an interpretive brochure on the history of the James A. Fields House. This house was once the site of the first black hospital in Newport News and, later, the home of a prominent African American attorney and educator.

Legacy Museum of African American History
Funds to support the production of a 24-page catalog to accompany an exhibit on the history of African American business in Central Virginia, covering the years 1820-1970.

Louisa County Historical Society
Funds to support research and oral history focusing on African American education in Louisa County through the period of Massive Resistance.

Presence Center for Applied Theatre Arts
Funds to support a community history project using theatre to explore current issues and important events in Charlottesville's African American history.

Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church
Funds to support the development of a brochure on the history of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church of Richmond.

Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation
Funds to support the production of a traveling exhibit on the life and achievement of Mary Ellen Henderson, co-founder of the first rural branch of the NAACP and an influential educator and advocate for civil rights in Fairfax County.
