Mini-Grants Program

AAHV grants are designed to help individual sites improve their interpretation of African American history and culture. It seeks to combine public education and economic development in ways that benefit the sponsoring institutions, their local communities, and the state as a whole.
These grants may be used to:
- Undertake new research
- Develop interpretive plans
- Create new promotional or educational materials
- Train interpretive staff and volunteers
- Plan and carry out new educational programs that will take place during the grant period (ie, lecture series, community forums, radio programs).
- Plan and carry out new educational programs that will continue beyond the grant period (ie, permanent exhibitions).
The goals of the African American History in Virginia mini-grant program are to:
- Increase public understanding of African American history and culture;
- Support research and documentation of Virginias African American historic sites;
- Strengthen the institutions that interpret African American history in the state;
- Provide a solid foundation for African American heritage tourism in every region of the Commonwealth.

The application deadline for 2008 grant cycle is February 1, 2008.
