Historical Significance:
The Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church was organized in 1867 by the renown black preacher, Reverend John Jasper. Originally housed in a confederate horse stable, Sixth Mount Zion found a home at 14 West Duval Street in 1869. John Jasper reached the height of his fame in 1878 when he unveiled his "Sun Do Move" sermon which was preached over 250 times upon request.
